ABOUT US
Avarana brings together two careers spanning companies, governments, international organisations and civil society. Between us, we have led teams and programmes, advised decision-makers and worked on the practical challenges of responsible business and international development.
Our experience includes both setting direction and being responsible for the work that follows: coordinating people and partners, managing competing priorities, working with budgets and information, and adapting when circumstances change.
That shapes how we advise clients. We ask what decision needs to be made, who needs to be involved and what can realistically be achieved with the time and resources available. We bring independent judgement, but we also pay attention to how an organisation actually works.
For us, Avarana reflects openness to different perspectives and a willingness to work through obstacles together.

Annamari Tornikoski
Human rights, governance & international affairs
Annamari has led policy and programme work across Finland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs, UNDP, International IDEA and civil society. Her experience includes managing international governance programmes, government grant processes and cross-institutional cooperation, as well as advising on human rights and responsible business.
Sami Tornikoski
Sustainable business, supply chains & environment
Sami works with companies on sustainability information, supplier engagement and practical business improvements. His background spans business development and entrepreneurship, sustainability coaching and international leadership and advisory roles with WWF and UNDP.
